Fashion takes a welcome walk on the wide side this Autumn-Winter, with OTT looks and hero pieces that invite us to live in the moment and unleash our inner untamed side. Designers from Roberto Cavalli to Bottega Veneta have found it a way to truly express their creativity, with a global spin that translates into super-flattering and wearable pieces for us to love for fall and beyond. From Aquilano Rimondi’s utterly tamed oversized coat to Moschino’s unexpected furry version, it’s all about embracing the call of the wild.
Bye bye conventionally cut sleeves: for fall this year, sleeves are going big, bold, and oh-so-dramatic! From the leg ‘o mutton to the bishop, the old-time sleeves have found their way onto the runways. While Dolce & Gabbana worked the sleeves on a wonderful pale blue column dress, at Luisa Beccaria it found its way on a whimsical champagne-coloured look. This trend has jolted the fashion pack with its nostalgic complacency, and we simply cannot wait for when it hits the streets.
Sinfully soft and ridiculously warm, designers didn’t shy away from using fur for AW16. In fact, they went all out in creating the dreamiest pieces that are already demanding a place in our closets. From Gucci’s ridiculously delicious-pink to Versace’s shaggy sunshine-yellow, the coat message was pretty damn clear: go bright or go home! We also love the notice-me-now styles sent out by Fendi, Dsquared2 and Fausto Puglis. Take note: fall’s favourite furry friends are not for the faint hearted.
Abandoning the predictable dark palette for winter, designers chose happy tones to brighten the angles. While MSGM clashed his stripes and polkas with florals, Max Mara went all out with tangerine orange and gradients of blue! Turn to Salvatore Ferragamo for the freshest take on colour blocking infused with graphic impact or look to Emporio Armani’s rather mathematical take on the trend. For the raddest plaids, we recommend Missoni’s tunic-over-tights and No.21’s oversized trench. This trend is all about crossing the line.
