The Met Ball is the pinnacle of black tie dressing within the fashion world. Each year we eagerly wait, with baited breath, to see what stunning and spectacular looks parade down the red carpet.
Are you ready for this year’s big day? On the 1st of May the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute exhibition kicks off, and this year it’s all about celebrating Rei Kawakubo aka the master mind behind Commes De Garcons. This theme may challenge the Gala’s regular celebrities and fashion insiders as it’s a far cry away from the 2016 Manus x Machina extravaganza.
Rei Kawakubo is known for her structural pieces, and with her avid dislike for fame and the spotlight the fashion world was duly shocked to hear her being announced as this year’s focus. The theme is less obvious than previous, last year futuristic looks were an obvious choice but there is no such ease this time around.
As we await the Met Ball, why not take a look at some of our favourite looks from years gone by...
