Specialists in coffee roasting, Blue Tokai handpicks beans from farms across India and delivers them fresh to their customers. Naturally then, their quaint cafe at Mahalaxmi is for those who don’t like to mess with their cuppa. Instead of focussing on building a chain of cafes, Blue Tokai's USP lies in serving some of the best coffees you can get your hands on. Be experimental and try the Coffee Tonic, prepared with tonic water. Or for a crispier drink, go for the Pour Overs, in which you can taste the flavour of the estate.

Love getting engrossed in a bestseller with a cup of cappuccino by the side? If you’re in Kolkata, head over to Café Story within the confines of Story, one of the most loved bookstores in the dreamy city. The interiors are dotted with blue-and-white tables, surrounded by tall bookshelves along the walls. With over 3,000 titles to choose from, losing track of time is a high possibility. So pick one, settle in and spend a day reading, scribbling down ideas, or even sketching. When you’re tired of these, charge your mind with some of the board games.

This is India’s first cycling café. Need we say more? It doesn’t matter that the city it’s located in doesn’t have a single cycling lane, the space will urge you to adopt the healthy habit. Interiors of the space have been fashioned using cycle parts — chandeliers from cycle chains, walls with leather seat hangings, tables supported by wheel rims and a row of bar stools structured out of cycle frames. Attached to the café is also a store selling the best environment-friendly wheels to own. Think names such as Bianchi, Cannondale, Mongoose and Schwinn. Time to switch to a two-wheeler?

It’s your neighbourhood coffee shop meant for a quick catch-up with friends, or a post dinner espresso. What’s so special then, you ask? It opens at 8 am, just in time to serve a delectable Himalayan breakfast. Also, their coffee is a freshly brewed Columbian variety, which lends the space its heavenly aroma. Quiet, peaceful and sans the hipster crowd you’d find in most branded coffee shops, this place is just right even for an informal business meeting. See you there!
