1. Hops ’N Brew, Gurgaon

Inspired from the variety of malts and brews Germany has to offer, Hops ’N Brew brought down the methodology they use, to create four crafts—Lager, Strong, Wheat and Dark—brewed with imported barley and hops. Microbreweries aren’t difficult to find in Gurgaon, but here’s one that is as much a café as it is a brewpub. Featuring bare walls and ceiling, the interior radiates the vibe of a rustic English brew house. But what makes this place super inviting is the terrace seating with raw stripped wooden tables, chairs and benches—the perfect space to spend a long Sunday afternoon.

Food to order: The great Mexican burger, BBQ chicken pizza, and crispy corn with bell pepper and onion.

Where: Leisure Valley Road, Sector 29

2. The White Owl Brewery & Bistro, Mumbai

In a city that is slowly opening up to the concept of microbreweries, The White Owl Brewery & Bistro is one that lists high on the list. Started by two friends who were introduced to the idea during their years in the US, this space is discreetly located within an office complex in Lower Parel. Their crafts, named Diablo, Halcyon, Shadow and Torpedo, range from a mild caramel and roast flavour, to a fruity taste of banana and clove. Brewed in small batches, they’re crafted using ingredients flown in from across the world, and served fresh in small batches.

Food to order: Barcelona mini-chorizo pies, house beer-battered fish ’n chips, and harrissa-marinated cottage cheese.

Where: One Indiabulls Center, Lower Parel

3. TJ’s Brew Works, Pune

One of the first breweries in the city, TJ’s Brew Works was started to allow true-blue beer aficionados to move away from bottled beer, towards something fresh and crisp. The brewery offers five varieties—Devil’s Dark, Zen Weiss, Premium, Blonde and Mystery—which range from a strong, heavily-bodied dark, to a mild, malty flavour. The Mystery is a limited quantity green apple flavoured beer, with a hint of mint. Good music, excellent ambience, a menu that’s a great balance of traditional bar nibbles and novel entrées, and of course the crafts, make this space a must-visit if you are in the city.

Food to order: Wonton wrapped prawns, cornflakes crusted chicken strips and crumbled fried mushrooms
