The red carpet at a popular award function is usually not the place where most male celebrities experiment with style. Pick a black tuxedo and look super sharp is their mantra. But at this year’s Golden Globe Awards some did try and break the tradition. Nominated for his role in The Danish Girl, Eddie Redmayne went with the traditional black, but updated the look with spot detailing on his jacket. On the other hand, Scottish actor Alan Cumming dressed down his bright blue one-button jacket with Jodhpur-style trousers and high-top trainers! Sam Heughan picked a Dunhill tuxedo that mixed blue with black, and finished it with patent black lace-up shoes and bow tie. But ruling the red carpet was English actor, producer, director and writer David Oyelowo, in a checked magenta three-piece tuxedo.

The Revenant and The Martian might have dominated this year’s wins, but each of these awardees stood out for their style choices as they were recognised for their works. While Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, who won the Best Actor award for his role in Mozart In The Jungle, and Leonardo DiCaprio stuck to a classic fit, Television stars—Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and Show Me A Hero’s Oscar Issac—opted for pieces that were slicker and cut trimmer.
